“The Multiband Filter

Critical band equalization and compression

The multiband filter BARK takes the approach to match the reception characteristic of the final destination of all sound: the ear. The ear behaves as if it contains a bank of filters, each filter passing frequencies within the critical band. Two tones separated by more than a critical bandwidth are received by the ear independently. For this reason BARK contains a filter bank with 27 bandpass filters matching the critical bandwidth.

In fact, the human ear have also its own built in compression system which are based on the critical bands. Consequently BARK incorporates an independent compression algorithm for each of it’s 27 bands.

“The structure of sound

CUBE 2 is a musical instrument and the ultimate tool for sound designers who wish to have instant and intuitive access to all principal components every imaginable sound is build from. Every sound can be decomposed in a sine spectrum representing the harmonic and inharmonic partials and a residual noise spectrum for the noise components. The spatial character of a sound can be represented by a pan spectrum. The temporal evolution of these three spectra is a very convenient way to describe every sound. CUBE 2 is built around this model and allows you to manipulate the structure of a sound with all its components in a comfortable and musical way.

Resynthesis

Take a sample as input and CUBE 2 analyzes it into two components: up to 512 sine tracks for the partial components and the residual spectrum for the noise components. The outstanding quality of the analyzer for a broad range of sounds avoids the typical artifacts known from time stretching/pitch shifting and granular algorithms.

“The Rhythmizer

Pimp up your loops !

The multi-band delay machine FDELAY is an exciting tool for sound design and loop manipulation in realtime. In contrast to the delay machines you’re used to FDELAY splits the frequency spectrum of the input signal into 27  bands and applies a separate delay unit to each band. The delay times can be synchronized to the host tempo generating nearly infinite rhythmical and sonic variations of the input signal.

For each of the delay bands you can specify the delay time, the level and the feedback amount separately. These parameter changes can even be automized in realtime for glitch free rhythmical morphings.

A few high level parameters let you change the delay times and feedbacks of all delays with the turn of a single knob

“The Vocoder for the 21st Century

The Vocoder was invented by Homer Dudley in the mid-30’s of the last century. Dudley worked at Bell Laboratories, and this is where the first Vocoder took shape.
The basic function of a Vocoder is characterized by an analysis of the input signal, usually speech but other type of inputs can also be very interesting. In a special filter bank, a spectral analysis is performed and signals are developed which follows the amount of spectral energy in each channel. Another part of the analyzer tests if there are unvoiced or voiced sounds at any particular time and extracts the pitch of the voiced sounds. The output section of the vocoder consists of a stereophonic synthesis filter bank which assembles the new synthetic speech from the characteristic filter envelopes from the analysis stage together with an external or internal replacement signal.

“The Ocean of Sound

For all creatures in the ocean of sound – Sonic textures from other worlds, Analog signature sounds,  Cut-through-the-mix leads and silkily smooth pads: POSEIDON sets a new standard for sounds and ease of use. All of this was made possible through a combination of the familiar, conceptual simplicity of the analog synthesis and our new, F-Domain synthesis technology.

Concept

At first sight POSEIDON looks like a simple structured analog “Oscillator-Filter” synthesizer  with all controls visible at once. This gives POSEIDON the ease of use with nearly no learning curve. The real power is working under the hood: The oscillator is nothing less than the award winning spectral modelling sound generator of CUBE. The variable slope Filter is a completely new design based on our unique F-domain synthesis. But let´s go step by step…

Spectral model oscillator

Select a basic sound model from over hundred delivered with POSEIDON. The basic sound model determines the sound characteristic you want to start: taking a artificial model like “Sawtooth” gives you analog style sounds. Use complex models from analyzed samples for earth shaking ambients and evolving pads.
Analyze your own favourite samples to create new models. For really fat sounds use the unisono mode giving you up to eight oscillators with variable detune.
The bitmap import function let you even take images and convert them to soundscapes!

“The Pitch Designer

It´s time for something new…

The multi-band pitch shifter PRISM takes a fresh approach to solve the problem of shifting the pitch of complex sound sources in realtime. Traditional frequency shifting shifts all frequencies in an input up by the same amount and thereby alters their harmonic relation and tends to produce inharmonic results. But it’s perfect in dealing with transients.

Pitch shifting on the other side sounds “right”, but the transients go mad and the sound gets metallic and grainy especially on high down shiftings.

“True Stereo reverb tail in REFLECT 2.5

The algorithmic reverb tail of REFLECT is now made with a true stereo processor – this means that the spatial position of the input signal influences the character of the resultant reverb tail. As a nice side effect the new processor gives you an even wider stereo panorama and increased resolution and density in the reverb tail.

To “warm up” the reverb tail an improved modulation algorithm has been added too.
